Real estate 5 Promenade des Anglais

Photo n° - 15 avril 2025
The Villa Les Algues, located at 5 Promenade des Anglais in Nice, is one of the most representative buildings of the city's architectural evolution. Built in 1861 for Virginie Serrat-Isnard by architect Victor Sabatier, this villa reflects the rise of Nice as a popular seaside destination in the 19th century. Over time, the villa has undergone several notable transformations. In 1897, architect Jean Boglio raised the building by one floor, altering its silhouette. In 1934, after being acquired by the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée (PLM), the villa was renovated in an Art Deco style. This renovation included an extension to the ground floor and a rooftop terrace, giving it a modern appearance while respecting the characteristics of the era.

The villa's entrance is adorned with a sculpture by Gérard Choain, adding an artistic touch to this historic building. The villa's architecture stands out with its elegant facades, featuring subtle Art Deco moldings, pilasters, and a horizontal cornice with a wide overhang. A glass extension, covered with two flattened translucent domes, was added in 1934, bringing light and modernity to the structure. Today, Villa Les Algues serves multiple functions. It houses the offices of the Nice Côte d'Azur Tourism Office, an important administrative hub for the city, as well as businesses (restaurant, real estate agency) and residential apartments on the upper floors. Its ideal seaside location, in close proximity to the Baie des Anges, makes the villa both a strategic and symbolic landmark on the Promenade des Anglais. The residence also offers around twenty parking spaces in the courtyard of the building, accessible via Rue Massenet.
